Your lawn and landscape need ongoing fertilization to stay healthy. That’s why Champion Green provides solutions tailored to meet your specific needs. Champion Green is uniquely equipped to help you achieve a lawn you’ll love. Proper mowing and watering techniques are the first steps toward a healthier lawn. But what’s next? Fertilizer? What kind? Weed control? How much? And when? The truth is, lawn care is a complex science. Many homeowners rely on trial and error and end up frustrated, never reaching their goals.

Not to mention the money you actually save by letting the professionals handle it. Homeowners cannot purchase the same products we use for less than the price of an entire application from Champion Green; if they are even available to consumers at all. Products we purchase are custom blended for our specific needs while the products that are offered by your local big box store are typically outdated technology for lawn fertilization specialists like Champion Green. All of our products are top of the line.

An expert lawn care service, like Champion Green, can remove the guesswork and get your lawn on the right path, right away. Champion Green technicians have the training and expertise to recognize your lawn’s specific needs. We’ll take a tailored approach, making sure your lawn gets exactly what fertilization it needs, exactly when it’s needed.

Common Weeds:

The following is a list of common weeds that may be encountered during the year. Perennial weeds cannot be controlled with pre-emergent; alternative control methods are needed; these are marked with (p). Some annual weeds are not controlled with pre-emergent. With the limitations of the herbicides available today, only some can be controlled with post-emergent sprays after the weed has germinated and emerged; these are marked with (a). Some weeds can only be suppressed; these are marked with (s):

Bittercress, Black Medic, Chickweed, Clover, Cudweed, Dandelion, Ground Ivy (p), Wild Onion/Garlic (a), Henbit, Knotweed, Plantain, Ragweed, Oxalis, Spurge, Wild Carrot, Bahiagrass (p), Buttonweed (p), Burn Weed (a), Dollarweed, Florida Pusley, Lespedeza, Bentgrass (p), Wild Violet (p)(s), Annual Rye, Poa Annua/Trivialis (p)(s), Goosegrass (p), Crabgrass, Nutsedge (p), Dallisgrass (p)(s), Weed Fescue, Weed Bermuda (p).

Our turf program consists of 7 applications throughout the year. These applications include all the weed control & fertilizer that your lawn will need for the entire year. Each application is uniquely tailored to the specific needs of your lawn’s turf type depending on the season and weather.

Round 1: This winter application is a broadcast spray with a mix of pre-emergent and post-emergent herbicides, along with soluble fertilizer. The post-emergent targets and kills weeds that have already germinated, while the pre-emergent prevents further weed germination.

Round 2: Occurring during the winter-to-spring transition, this application is also a broadcast spray that combines pre-emergent and post-emergent herbicides with soluble fertilizer. It aids in spring green-up for warm-season turf grasses (Bermuda, Zoysia, & Centipede) and supports the continuous growth of cool-season turf grasses (Tall Fescue). The pre-emergent from this round supplements the first to ensure longer-lasting results.

Round 3: During spring green-up, custom-blended granular fertilizer is applied to maintain the color and health of the turf while preparing lawns for summer stressors. Spot applications for weeds will be performed as needed.

Round 4: The summer application consists of custom-blended fertilizer tailored to each type of turf and weather conditions. Spot applications will address all treatable broadleaf, grassy, and sedge weeds.

Round 5: In late summer and early fall, Tall Turf Type Fescue lawns will receive starter fertilizer with all necessary macro and micronutrients to prepare for the Aeration & Overseeding season. Warm-season turf grass lawns will receive custom-blended granular fertilizer to support growth during peak season, along with spot applications for controllable weeds.

Round 6: As warm-season grasses prepare for dormancy in the fall, they will receive a broadcast application of pre-emergents and post-emergents to eliminate present weeds and prevent fall/winter germination. Tall Fescue lawns will get a special blend of granular fertilizer to promote growth during the Aeration & Overseeding season, with no weed control to avoid impacting new seeds.

Round 7: This fall/winter transition application continues to control seasonal weed germination in warm-season turf lawns with spot applications of herbicides. Both types of turf grasses will receive custom-blended fertilizers tailored to their specific needs: Tall Turf Type Fescue will get a high-nitrogen blend to develop new seedlings and nourish mature turf, while warm-season turf will receive fertilizer focused on minor nutrients to prepare for winter stress.
